The New Vuman Video Borescope

INVIZ VUMAN RA-Y X-Way long length <a title="video borescope"href="http://aitproducts.com/vuman-video-borescope.html">video borescope is capable of fully articulating while completely coiled on the reel. This is not possible with any other video borescope. Using an advanced micro compressor the Vuman video borescope allows the tip of the borescope to be steered up to 100 ft (30 Meters) while wrapped up on the storage reel or passed through unlimited bends. Other systems are bulky and not able to articulate unless they are laid end to end in a straight line.

Other video borescopes rely on cables to manipulate the tip of the borescope. Cable articulation has always had limitations due to tension that is present in the cable over great distances or multiple bends. This tension causes the cables to fail or become unresponsive. The Vuman offers a tremendous advantage over these systems because no tension is present regardless of length or the number bends. Compressed air is push through the length of the video borescope to manipulate the tip with astonishing results.

Another ground-breaking feature of the Vuman video borescope is remote focus. The vuman video borescope has eliminated the need for multiple tip adapters be allowing the user to remotely focus the optics of the video borescope. Remote focus capability allows the Vuman video borescope to provide astonishing high resolution images over a variety of distances without the need to change tip adapters.

Remote focus is an incredible advantage over traditional video borescope and videoscopes that rely on the need to change are variety of tip adapters depending on the distance the video borescope is viewing. Video borescope tip adapters have always forced a compromise with image resolution along with a variety of other issues that remote focus now overcomes. Tip adapters often forced the operator to remove the video borescope from an inspection to change tip adapters, using up valuable time. Tip adapters have also been a source of cross threading causing expensive repairs or being lost and becoming foreign object debris. Video borescope or videoscope tip adapters are also expensive and often add thousands of dollars to the cost of a video borescope or videoscope. The Vuman's remote focus feature eliminates all the issues that have been associated with tip adapters.

The Vuman <a title="video borescope"href="http://aitproducts.com/vuman-video-borescope.html">video borescope is currently the most advanced borescope manufactured for industrial applications. The system remains portable, light weight and durable with carbon fiber construction and aluminum alloy construction. Advanced features of the Vuman video borescope also include; an internal 320 GB hard drive for storage of jpeg and mpeg video, powerful HID light source, user friendly menus and an on board operators guide.

The Vuman video borescope is designed for remote visual inspection at power generation, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, process and other industrial plants. Applications will include: turbines, boiler tubes, heat exchangers, steam feed lines, foreign object search and retrieval, orbital weld inspections, pressure vessels, purity piping, rotating machinery, pipes, gear boxes, and other difficult to inspect areas of industrial plants.

Customers often ask if the tip optics can be scratched on an industrial videoscope. The optics on all iSeries videoscopes, which are part of the iRis and iTool videoscope systems, are constructed from sapphire. Sapphire is an unusually hard gem stone that is only second to diamond in hardness. The use of sapphire on all of AIT's industrial grade videoscopes means that they will resist scratching from even the most rigorous use. Materials such as steel, titanium and other hard metals will not damage the optics of the iSeries videoscope from routine contact. Customers can rest easily knowing that their investment in an industrial videoscope from AIT will withstand the most difficult environments and continue to produce brilliant images.

Advanced Inspection Technologies (AIT) was contacted at 10:00 PM on a Friday night and asked if it was possible to have an industrial pipe inspection camera sent to the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant as soon as possible. AIT always places the customer first and understands the urgent needs of the industrial customers we cater to. It has happened in the past and it will continue to happen. Industrial plants will be in a planned or unplanned outage and need to inspect a critical system before returning the plant to operation. Frantic calls go out looking for video borescopes and pipe inspection cameras in the middle of the night. Most companies work on a 9 to 5 schedule and are not able to assist late in the night. AIT did answer the phone as part of their unique 24/7 service philosophy and provided the Crystal River plant with a

Micro Borescopes Inspect The Smallest Areas

Micro borescopes are typically used to remotely inspect the smallest application. Some remote visual inspection applications require access through tiny holes that are less than 2.0 mm (0.078 in). A micro borescope or mini borescope may be semi-flexible or rigid. Typically these small borescopes are limited in length and direction of view is 0° forward with the option for side view mirror sleeves.

These small inspection areas provide remote visual inspection professionals with many challenges. The access dictates the inspection requirements more than any other factor. The smaller the inspection area the more limited the choice of micro borescopes available and the number of manufacturers of these mini borescopes. Finally, Due to the nature of a micro borescope, it is more susceptible to damage. Users need to be aware of the limitations of smaller diameter borescopes and fiberscopes and work within these.

Applications for Micro Borescopes:

• Engineering & Manufacturing. Micro Borescopes provide cost-effective examination of internal structures without tear down. A micro borescope allows engineers to check for pitting, cracking, corrosion, erosion, weld and other defects.

• Quality Control. Micro Borescope instruments allow manufactures to inspect components for defects. Mini borescopes provide the ability to inspect internal components, bore holes, castings and other manufactured items such as turbine blades, automotive components, circuit boards, rifle barrels and welds.

• Castings. Micro Borescopes can be used to inspect inside casting of engine blocks and other high quality casted components. Micro Borescope instruments as small as 0.5 mm in diameter and larger are offered to accommodate all casting inspection needs.

What Length Borescope Should You Choose For Your Inspection?

To determine the most appropriate length borescope you need for your inspection is a fairly simple process.

1.	Determine what distance the working length of the borescope will need to travel to reach the target inspection area.
2.	Consider the access area and keep in mind any external components that will keep the borescope at a distance from the inspection access.
3.	Can the area that needs to be inspected be access from several locations?

The best choice is to select the shortest borescope
possible. This allows for greatest light transmission to the target and therefore the best possible borescope image. Just as important a shorter bore scope is the easiest is the easiest to use and will have the best tip articulation. Remember that any unused length of boroscope not only costs more but will be coiled at your feet or protruding from the inspection area and far more susceptible to damage.

Advanced Inspection Technologies (AIT) Fiberscopes are Constructed with the Highest Resolution Fiber Optics and a Durable Tungsten Sheath.

Advanced Inspection Technologies (AIT) customers demand durable and rugged fiberscopes for the most demanding industrial inspections. All fiberscopes that AIT sells are constructed with high resolution fiber optics and a durable tungsten external braiding. A fiberscope that is designed for industrial applications must deliver the highest resolution and detailed images. Demanding industrial fiber scope
applications expose fiberscopes to metal on metal friction, harsh chemicals and difficult inspection pathways. Tungsten is simply more durable than stainless steel or polyurethane in these types of environments. An AIT fiberscope with a tungsten sheath withstands 5 times more wear and tear compared to other brands.

What is the difference between a "Borescope" and a "Boroscope?"

A borescope and a boroscope are the same thing. The term "Boroscope" is comonly used as a term to refer to the industry standard term "borescope."

A Borescope or Boroscope is an optical device consisting of a rigid or flexible tube with an eyepiece on one end, an objective lens on the other linked together by a relay optical system in between. The optical system is usually surrounded by optical fibers used for illumination of the remote object and a rigid or flexible protective outer sheath. The remote object is illuminated and an internal image formed by the objective lens is relayed to the eyepiece which magnifies the internal image and presents it to the viewer's eye. Borescopes are used for inspection work where the area to be inspected is inaccessible by other means.

Borescopes or Boroscopes are commonly used in the visual inspection of aircraft engines, aeroderivative industrial gas turbines, steam turbines, diesel engines and automotive/truck engines. Gas and steam turbines require particular attention because of safety and maintenance requirements. Borescope inspection of engines can be used to prevent unnecessary maintenance, which can become extremely costly for large turbines. They are also used in manufacturing of machined or cast parts to inspect critical interior surfaces for burrs, surface finish or complete through holes. Forensic applications in law enforcement and building inspection are also common uses for borescopes.

A rigid borescope or boroscope generally provides a superior image at lower cost compared to a flexible borescope, but have the limitation that access to what is to be viewed is a straight line. A flexible borescope can be used to access cavities which are around a bend, such as a combustion chamber or "Burner Cans" in order to view the condition of the compressed air inlets, turbine blades and seals without disassembling the engine.

I have searched for a definition of exactly what remote visual inspection is and have been unable to find any concrete definition. Instead I find that all the manufacturers of remote visual inspection equipment use the term causally to describe their products and services but never offer an explanation. The American Society of Non Destructive Testing (ASNT) does not include the term in the Non Destructive Handbook nor do any manufacturers offer a definition. As an industry insider I have always known that "remote visual inspection involves the use of a borescope, fiberscope, videoscope or other remotely operated camera to remotely view or inspect something that could not be viewed directly." I offer this as the industry definition of Remote Visual Inspection (RVI).
